The Indian subcontinent can be credited for many significant discoveries that originated in India and later made their way to other countries. Many of them in fact travelled to Europe and other parts post the British Colonisation.
Yoga is a Sanskrit word and the literal meaning of Yoga is to ‘unite’. It’s a discipline that is said to have originated almost 5000 years ago. There’s no particular evidence of who invented Yoga, but this ancient discipline has been mentioned in Hindu mythology scriptures, Buddhism and Jainism.

India has had a rich royal history and the game of chess is said to have been first played during the Gupta Empire much before 6th century AD. The game was known as ‘chaturanga’ then which signify the four pillars of ancient military – infantry, cavalry, elephantry and chariotry. From India, the chess travelled to Persia. Even Wikipedia mentions the foundation of chess in India.

The origin of buttons can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilisation during 2000 BC i.e. pre-partition India. Archaeologists say that buttons were used more like embellishments in those days, made from stones and shells.
