Wine and Cheese tasting at Two Fat Blokes

The pristine Hunter Valley is a favourite amongst Sydneysiders for its vineyards, resort stays, gourmet tours and other leisurely activities.

This was my second visit to Hunter Valley, with an unplanned itinerary and a beautiful sunny weather in autumn. I was last there went in winter and stayed at the Tuscany Estate resort in Pokolbin, dining at their equally popular restaurants. Read post here.

So this is a short getaway itinerary that could be handy if you make a day trip to Hunter Valley. So here we go:

Start early

An early start by 8 am or 9 am gives you more room to catch up and make the most of your trip. Take a picnic basket for pit stop or grab breakfast on the way.

A two hour plus drive depending on traffic would get you there by midday just in time for an early brunch / lunch.

Dining at the Two Fat Blokes Gourmet Kitchen

This is an absolute foodie’s delight with fantastic prices, indoor-outdoor dining, deli and a wine cellar at close proximity.
Interestingly, I had read a bunch of good reviews about Two Fat Blokes and their gourmet tours, but little is known about their 3 year old refurbished gourmet kitchen, inviting people to break bread with amazing wines.
Yes, it is largely known for wine tasting and gourmet tours in Hunter Valley which also makes them highly rated by Trip Advisor. But if you don’t want to tour and just want to relax with good food and wines, then their well priced Gourmet Kitchen is the place to go.

Things to do at Two Fat Blokes, Gourmet Kitchen

Book Early

If you are going on a long weekend or during holidays, always better to make a booking before. Since ours was an impromptu brunch drive, I booked on the same morning.

Unfortunately, the lady I spoke with missed noting my name on their final booking list, so when we entered we didn’t have a booking. However, realizing the error, the staff was accommodating and quickly settled us on a table after 15 minutes. Great service!

The Menu

It’s an extensive menu with tasting plates matched with beer, white wine and red wine. There’s also cheese tasting at the Deli everyday at 11 am and 3 pm, adding to more options for vegetarians. Don’t forget to shop there with over 95 variety of cheese and other locally produced goods for your kitchen.
